Russian Federation Delegate commending fellow delegates to contribute for the solving of water management and renewable energy and electrification.

The Economic and Social Council Committee delegations to the United Nations presented their views upon the The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development on Thursday February 12. The pressing issue of water management and security, as well as renewable energy and electrification, are two topics that delegations have considered of utmost important, in order to solve one of the most detrimental problems of our society today: poverty, security and even peace talks.

The delegation of Greece exposed upon the committee, the fundamental goals of the United Nations, upon its foundation, post world-war two in 1945. “Upon the United Nations Foundation, there were three main pillars that essentially defined the Organization: peace, security and prosperity. Without the proper implementation of water management, and electricity, these pillars can not be met.”

Turkey on water management- “As water is an essential in regard to human life, there needs to be consistent talks between delegations, in order to successfully engage in talks, to tackle the growing issue of water mismanagement.” A boost in structure is in due and a framework, should be set up, in a sustainable manner”, stated the delegate.

South Africa, made an analogy that successfully explained the dire situation in the region of Africa.”The tears of the African People, are tears of sadness. If we continue to have talks about why this issue matters, and how we can work together in order to fix it, those tears will be turned into rivers of happiness.”

Furthermore, in the wise words of Mr. Secretary General Ban Ki Moon:”Renewable energy, a useful tool to let poor nations out of poverty and into a path to prosperity.” The pressing issue of water management, is something that cannot go by unnoticed. As there is many people who suffer from hunger and dehydration, we can not ignore the importance of the fair distribution of water, the right implementation, and management. In the words of the delegation of the United States of America, who satted that :”Water, is a basic human right, for human being of the world.”

However, given the importance, of human rights on water, though extremely high, some delegations believe that it is equally important to discuss renewable energy and electrification, given, that electricity hails from water (hydroelectricity). India, mentioned that it is very important to be able to solve renewable electricity, and water together, since one depends on the other. The aggressiveness of the Korean delegation stated that sea level, and water temperature has risen, making the issue, more difficult. “A political Will, will be the most effective way to counter-act the problem, encourage delegations to favour topic on renewable energy.”

To conclude the speeches on setting the agenda, the delegation of Brazil, asked the delegates to not end the debate, not all issues have been heard and many nations still have to propose collective ideas on how to implement economic, social, political powers in order to find a viable, productive solution to the topics.
