Elevator Strife

By SUSAN BINCHY, HAARETZ

Glancing around the corridors of this conference I think it’s safe to say that we are very much dependent on technology. Every second person has their laptop warming their thighs. It is quite funny what brings people together ,and it is very clear that  at this conference, it is the unique collective rejection of the ‘new modern elevators’.

The mass exodus that  occurs at lunch and dinner forces personal space invasions as hungry souls wait for their ascending chariots.  The echoes of sighs and moans fill the air as each elevator door opens already full.  One positive to focus on is the opportunity to wallow together and form friends in our depths of despair.  So smile, say hi to your fellow comrade, make a friend, this is a great place to be stuck in an elevator, think of all the amazing people who you could be stuck with.
